Andrea Fraser

Drew Toal writes:
"There are plenty of people whose inner dialogues I would love, and perhaps kill, to see acted out. Schopenhauer, Jesus, Keanu Reeves... Is Andrea Fraser one of [them]?" continued.

Ironic, humorous, challenging, completely exposed, that's Andrea Fraser and her work—which are absolutely one. American-born, NY-based, her performances are cleaver, loud, socially relevant and holistically played out. More here and here.

Re: Fresh

Here's a few images of the re-worked piece on Camden Street in Toronto. Originally painted in late 2008, I re-touched it due to repairs done to the building's facade. Click for a larger view, hit "return" to come back.

At 52 McCaul

I'm spending the rest of the week painting in the vitrine of 52 McCaul (Toronto). A sort of residency while the gallery peeps take a summer break. Here are a few photos from yesterday.

Whahh?

Before

After

Painted with Amos in June. Clients of the parking lot "did not appreciate the graffiti being there." It was removed.

Work In Progress

Here's a final update on that building I was painting over the last few months. Patrick Thompson joined in for a bit, see images above. Inevitably though, the crane came.

Doris McCarthy

Today is Canadian-icon Doris McCarthy's 100th birthday. If you happen to be in Toronto this month, you can catch three exhibitions of hers: Eight Paintings / Eight Decades (at Wynick Tuck) until July 29, Roughing It in the Bush (at UTSC's Doris McCarthy Gallery) until July 24, and Roughing It in the Bush (at UofT's Art Centre) also until July 24. Find her site here.
